Have you ever heard the saying “You are what you eat”, well, it also applies to cows. Each day more and more consumers are paying attention to the production process of the food they eat in their daily lives. Many studies have shown that the nutrients in Beef can vary depending on what cows eat. What a cow eats can significantly affect the nutrient composition of its Beef. This is particularly evident when it comes to fatty acid composition. Grass Fed Beef usually contains less total fat than other feeding options like grain.
There are many myths and discussions on the consumption of red meat. However, you should know Beef is loaded with vitamin B12, B3, and B6. It’s also rich in highly bioavailable iron, selenium, and zinc. In fact, meat contains almost every nutrient that you need to survive. It also contains high quality protein and various lesser-known nutrients, such as creatine and carnosine, which are very important for your muscles and brain. Also, when compared with other types of Beef, Grass Fed Beef may have some heart-health benefits. Grass Fed Beef may have:
- Lower total fat content
- More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
- More omega-6 fatty acid (linolenic acid)
- More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
Grass Fed Beef may be known as an expensive treat but this is not entirely true. In some countries, Grass Fed Beef can be more expensive, and it may not be worth the extra cost for some people. Those who may live close to a farmer’s market or whole foods store are the lucky ones, byt others may need to drive long distances to find Grass Fed Beef. Grass Fed Beef is often leaner and may have a different texture. These features are the main reasons why it is so worth the cost.
